Welcome to episode 40 of the Tablet PC Show! I had hoped to have a guest co-host for this episode, but he was having connection issues, so I’m on my own.
News and Updates:
- ClearContext, the Outlook plug-in works with Outlook 2007 beta, but has some performance problems. Brad Meador and his guys are working on them, however.
- Immersion is showing off their VibeTonz tactile feedback touchscreen which would be very cool on a Tablet PC.
- Ink For Word is a new plug-in for Word that allows for ink annotation and editing gestures.
- Incoming freshmen engineering students at Virginia Tech are now required to purchase Tablet PCs for their studies.
- The Australian C1 Group has released a nice-looking “near-UMPC” that doesn’t (but could) run Tablet PC OS.
- Tablet Enhancements for Outlook 3.0 is now in beta 3.
- Rob Bushway at TabletBible.com has released the English Standard Version of the Bible for OneNote 2007 beta.
- ritePen has some issues when running on an eo Origami device.
- Averatec has shown new photos of their upcoming UMPC.
- OrigamiProject.com has a new contest with some excellent prizes.
- Barry Doyle at TabletPCReviewSpot.com gives some excellent advice on getting the most from your tablet’s battery.
- The Samsung Q1 Origami device features an “AV Station” mode running Windows XP Embedded.
- Dennis Rice at GottaBeMobile.com writes about MathJournal 2.0 from xThink. It’s a very slick application if you’re 1) a LOT smarter than me and 2) into math.
- Microsoft has released Private Folders 1.0, which lets you encrypt files on your hard drive.
- Paul Thurott’s SuperSite for Windows breaks the news that Microsoft has refreshed the look of their Aero Basic UI in Windows Vista. It’s not a pretty as Aero Glass, but it’s definitely an improvement.
Other than the news and updates, my only topic of discussion this time around is when to try Vista on my tablet? I mean as my primary OS. Is it ready yet? I’m not sure.
If you have comments or questions or feedback, please feel free to leave a comment here, email me, or leave me a voicemail right here!

Hi Perry
We’d love to have you try out Ink for Word; you’ll be among the first to get a copy of it when we release it.
