But now you can also leave me an audio comment (much like a voicemail).
On to the News and Updates that are the entirety of this episode:
- Samsung has announced the inital price of their Q1 UMPC: $1200-1500 USD. Ouch! This is far too high, in my opinion, to be successful. But they also announced an upcoming $700 USD UMPC for later this year. Much better!
- DualCor has also announced pricing for their cPC combination Tablet PC and Windows Mobile Pocket PC: $1500-2000 USD. Another very high price! But this is geared towards the enterprise market rather than consumers and may do okay at this price point..
- Fujitsu has announced the T70S UMPC (sort of) tablet. It’s got an 8.9″ screen and is actually a convertable with an attached keyboard.
- At risk of turning this into the “All Samsung” episode, Samsung has also released some accessories for the Q1 UMPC, including a car charger (good idea)!
- Google has launched the Google Calendar application, which eventually will integrate with Outlook.
- Microsoft Research has a tool to help victims of mistyped URLs who get sent to unsavory websites, but it’s probably more of a help to IT types than end users.
- Samsung (again) patents a technology for a virtual form and pen input. Wouldn’t a virtual keyboard be nice on slate tablets?
- Averatec announces a UMPC-like device, that looks like an overgrown Sidekick and may or may not actually be a Tablet PC.
- One last bit of Samsung news, this one being something they’d probably prefer not mentioned at all… It’s a demo of UMPC devices that went horribly wrong.
- Finally… The big news of the week. Is Apple getting closer to launching a Tablet PC? And will it be a UMPC? Recent developments make it look very possible.

I listened to podcast #34 earlier this week. Good job.
The program was packed with good information as usual. You asked for suggestions or comments in podcast #34. Here goes.
The first and most noticeable improvement in podcast #34 was your slower speaking pace. This slowdown might be a result of you having to go through fewer topics, but either way, the show was easier to follow.
Consider breaking up your show into short well defined segments. Where instead of speaking in a stream of consciousness from beginning to end from a list of notes. Segments would break your show up into separate topics. Something like “picks and pans” or “new products.” This segmented format doesn’t mean you can’t speak in a stream of consciousness style. It means you would speak in a stream of consciousness in the context of a show segment .
Also please explain some of the new technology terms before talking about them in depth. Technically sophisticated listeners might know what Duo Core and Origami stand for but didn’t initially. I had to hunt around elsewhere to find out what they meant. In the technology world, it doesn’t take long to fall behind the curve.
Always assume there is at least one newbie and one highly technical listener in your audience. The newbie listener forces you to be clear. the technically sophisticated listener keeps you honest.
Keep up the good work.

Hi Paul,
Thank you very much for the comments! I will definitely take your advice under consideration and see if I can make this podcast better. When I first started hosting it, I did have several recurring segments, like the “News and Updates” and “Poll of the week” and the like. I’ve drifted away from that recently, but perhaps I should go back in that direction.
