Welcome to episode 33 of the Tablet PC Show!

I jump right in this time with News & Updates:

  • Brown University and Microsoft announce the Microsoft Center for Research on Pen-Centric Computing to study ways to improve the operation of computing devices with pens or styluses (stylii?)
  • Mitsubishi demos the Diamond Touch table, designed for gaming and supporting multiple simultaneous touches and voice command
  • scanR announces updates to their service to improve cropping and skew correction on whiteboard photos and focus and contrast correction on document photos
  • The Spam Cube is a $150, 4-inch box that can filter spam, phishing and virus-laden emails with upwards of a 98-percent success rate
  • You can now run a free copy of VisiCalc, the world’s first spreadsheet program, on your computer. Microsoft reportedly uses VisiCalc to test the backwards compatibility of their operating systems and you can see it works fine on my tablet:

  • Tablet Enhancements for Outlook version 3.0 is now in public beta. Get a copy here
  • Apple announces Boot Camp for dual booting Intel-based Macs into Windows XP and OS X. But perhaps a better solution is the virtualization environment Parallels
  • Fujitsu shows off a foldout keyboard UMPC concept the size of a CD case
  • OQO upgrades their Model 1+ to include a touchscreen and USB 2.0
  • Former Tablet PC Show host James Kendrick wrote about OrigamiCar, which is a software package designed to run on your UMPC in your car and control your car’s audio system
  • Microsoft announces a Media Center Expander for UMPCs
  • HP Labs India demos the Gesture Keyboard for unputting Indian languages and Coffei for filing out forms on paper and electronically at the same time
  • Spongecell is an online calendar application with a unique twist: it can understand natural language, for example: “Dinner with Bob next Thursday” (Via sarahintampa.com)
  • Next, The Podcast Network’s own Cameron Reilly has a talk with Frank Luburic, the ThinkPad Brand Manager at Lenovo Australia about the ThinkPad X41 TabletPC. Cam shares his input of the only ThinkPad tablet model available.
