News and Updates:

  • The Panasonic Toughbook Wireless Display looks and acts like a Tablet PC, but isn’t.
  • Microsoft has admitted to a bug in their USB 2.0 drivers that can cause rapid battery drain in some portables.
  • Office 12 is now Office 2007 and OneNote 2007 will have some cool drawing tools. Chris Pratley’s blog is a good place to go for news on the new version of OneNote.
  • A team at NYU demoed a very slick “multiple touch” touchscreen idea.We next pondered whether or not Apple will release a tablet of their own, or if their recent patent applications are for a new video iPod instead.

    After last week’s podcast, I did eventually install InkGestures for Word and we discussed its usefulness.

    I found a very cool service at scanr.com that let’s you snap a photo of a whiteboard presentation and receive it back cleaned up in a PDF document, perfect for storing on your tablet. Here’s a sample that I did…

    Another useful service is OneCare from Microsoft which is currently in beta.

    And we discussed the Palm Treo 700W smartphone. It’s not a Tablet PC, but is it a good PDA phone? Len’s answers may surprise you.
